AVSL Round 9 Wrap up (Mental Health Round)
1500m –
Riley Shillito (BYC) was the victor in the men’s 1500m as he took first place in 4:09.30
Also impressive was Mitch Korosec (WEN) who finished second, with a time of 4:11.03 which scored himself 438 points. Amy Canavan (EKA ) took out the women’s race in a time of 4:52.39. She narrowly beat Rosie Hunt (WEN) where she finished in 4:53.64. A mention goes to Aria Violini (BYC) who scored the most points being 408.
100m –
The sprints saw some heavy tail winds, negating some possible personal bests that may have fallen. Pat Scuffins (WEN) took victory running 11.16. Jace Murray (WEN) was second in 11.38. Derek Okolo (WEN) was the best of them all, running 11.84 to score 444 points. Nyajima Jock (WEN) finally was able to take away the Open 100m record, running a time of 11.81 seconds. However, it was also a great day for Mackenzie Estlick (WEN) she ran a time of 11.93 to break the under 18 and under 20 records. 3 Records fell in the 100m! The wind reading of this race was +1.1.
Walks –
Jemma Peart (BYC) dominated in the Mixed 2000m walk, achieving a time of 9:38.72 seconds. This scored her 411 points. Kelly Ruddick (BHA) did well in the 5000m walk to score 459 points with a time of 25:33.16
Hurdles –
Jace Murray (WEN) had the highest score of 388 in the hurdles, he did this in a time of 16.29 in the 100m hurdles. Charlie inkster scored 363 in her 100m Hurdles to run a time of 17.03 seconds. Chris Lang (WEN) actually bettered his record from last time, running a time of 20.49 to further lower his record!
400m –
In the long sprints Oliver Grant (EKA) had the fastest time in the 400s. He ran 52.73 to take the victory, scoring 388 points. James Pendred was equally as good, as he also scored 388 points for his 55.30 run. Marcus Downes ran 57.77 to score 435 points. The highest of the men’s. The girls also had some great performances. Darcy Thatcher (BHA) ran the fastest in 61.85 to score 414 points. Leni Williams had a great performance too with a time of 63.14, to score 423 points for her category.
Non Scored Mental Health Run –
Competitors took the 3000m to the track where Adam Conway (WEN) blitzed the field in a time of 10:07.18 to take the win. Well done to Michelle Hawkes (WEN) for going in solo for the females. Carla Maxwell (WEN) went as the only Ballarat athlete for the 5000m.
Javelin –
Kynan Stasinowsky (EKA) had the largest throw, throwing 42.83m. Marcus Downes scored the most points with 363. Kim Gleeson scored 325 points with her furthest throw of 27.98m.
Pole Vault – Summer Jenkins was close to her record this week, vaulting herself 2.60m over the bar. Stephen McCulloch was also there where he jumped 2.45m to win for the men’s.
Shot Put –
Jace Murray (WEN) lead the men with a throw of 12.32m to score 325 points. Pauline Graham (EKA) also had a great shot put with a distance of 9.60m to score 382 points.
Triple Jump –
Olivia Papageorgiou was dominant in the 3 step jump. She jumped 10.36m to score 426 points. Kynan Stasinowsky jumped the furthest in 12.60m. However Purv Patel scored the most points with 388 in his jump of 11.98m.
