Windy conditions as per usual at Llanberris on Saturday where we hosted for the Geelong teams and their region.
1500m – Cody Torney (WEN) was the first of the Ballarat athletes to cross the line in a time of 4:15.17. In the women’s Lucy Jones (EKA) finished in a time of 4:51.27 with Amy Canavan (EKA) finishing next with 4:55.87
100m – We expect nothing less than windy conditions in the 100m sprints, where wind was constantly blowing in favor of the 100s. The Geelong clubs were dominant in the short sprints, Nelson Banigo (BHA) was the quickest in the mens with an impressive time of 11.74 gaining 414 points. However in the female’s Ballarat was dominant. Mackenzie Estlick (WEN) finished first overall scoring 455 points with a time of 12.36 (pretty quick!!). Chloe Kinnersly (BHA) finished second in 12.55 scoring 430.
Walks – The 1500m and 3000m walks were completed as mixed. Impressively, in the 1500m walk Jemma Peart (BYC) finished first by 27 seconds with a time of 7:29.53, beating all men and women. The 3k walk saw a battle between Fraser Saunder (BYC) who took first place in 12:51.29 where in a very close second Alannah Peart (BYC) finished in an impressive time of 12:52.49, scoring 478 points. However, this performance from Alannah broke the OPEN 3km walk record, now previously held by Kelly Ruddick (12:58.85). Congratulations Alannah, well done on an awesome effort.
400m – Patrick Martin took the win in the 400m (48.21), beating the 400m hurdles country record holder Harvey Murrant from Geelong Guild (48.35) and upcoming potential Hudson Downes (WEN) in a time of 49.03. In the females Chloe Kinnersly (BHA) after a great run in the 100m, would run a time of 60.34 to take the win beating four other BHA members including Shakira Lual, who ran a time of 62.68 who is in the UNDER 14s. This scored her 458 points as opposed to Chloe’s 414.
Javelin – Jace Murray (WEN) was the most impressive from Javelin, throwing 49.23 on his second attempt to win the Javelin scoring 358. The outstanding female was Kim Gleeson (BYC) throwing 25.23m to score 302 points.
Shot put – Pauline Graham (EKA) had the highest scoring points in the shot put with a score of 368 points where she threw 9.12m. Kim Gleeson (BYC) also had a great day out scoring 367 points with a throw of 9.57m. The furthest throw seen in the mens was from Jace Murray (WEN) who threw 12.01m.
Triple Jump – The highest point scorer in the triple jump was Mia Schodde (WEN) with a jump of 9.16m scoring 395 points.
Conditions were all over the place for round 1, but nothing beats a bit of race hardening for the weeks to come, it is only going to become hotter with the rounds to come so there is a lot to look forward to in the season to come.
