800m – One of the best 800s to ever be seen in Ballarat where we saw a couple of huge sub 2 minute efforts. 7 out of 8 athletes went sub 2 minutes. What an impressive field, led by the winner running 1:55.19 by Charles Chandler (EKA). Hudson Downes (WEN) was next from Ballarat running 1:57.19 scoring himself 442 points for his effort. In heat 2, Ben Stevens (EKA) lead the race to just run under 2 minutes. The time of 1:59.93 scored him 374 points. Further off from the men’s the most impressive effort that might not have been obvious was Marcus Downes (WEN) where he broke the Men’s 50+ record. The previous record was held by Matthew Gibney (BHA). The new record is 2:13.23 scoring 457 points. Congratulations Marcus, another record in the books.
In the women’s, we saw Lucy Jones (EKA) lead the pack to her victory in the first heat, running 2:16.28 scoring 446 points. Alongside this Paige Tuddenham (BYC) scored a high amount of points with her time of 2:26.43, being 439 points.
Mixed 2000m Walk – With a sub 10 minute performance Jemma Peart (BYC) won the walks in a time of 9:56.72 scoring the club 394 points
Hurdles – Kiana Jenkins (BHA) was the highest point scorer in the 400m hurdles running a time of 72.90 scoring herself 414 points.
200m – Windy conditions in the 200m showed a variation of results produced. In the men’s we saw Cooper Sherman (BHA) run a 20.91 to beat Hudson Downes (WEN) running 21.92. Peter O’Dwyer (BHA) ran well where he scored 435 points with a 26.16.
In the women’s Shakira Lual (BHA) ran the best out of Ballarat running a 26.78 to score herself 459 points.
3000m – Ben Stevens (EKA) was the winner of the 3000m, with a time of 9:07.47, however Mitchell Korosec was the best off scoring the highest amount of points being 395. He ran a time of 9:22.61. In the women’s Olivia McConchie (EKA) was Ballarat’s most impressive female in the 3000m as she ran a time of 11:26.42 to score herself 389 points.
5000m – Claire Johnson (BHA) was the fastest female running a time of 18:19.47 to score 428 points, however Angela Williams (WEN) ran a time of 19:29.64 to score 442 points for her club.
Relays – Good to see so many Ballarat teams in the relays with 5 Ballarat Harriers teams, 3 Wendouree, 3 YCW teams and 3 Eureka teams.
Field
Discus – The usual suspects are performing the best this week. Jace Murray (WEN) threw 48.48m to score himself the best spot in Ballarat with 421 points. Alongside this Kim Gleeson (BYC) was the standout female performance throwing 30.08m scoring 326 points.
Hammer – The best female performance was once again Kim Gleeson (BYC) throwing 37.15m. However in the men’s we had a record breaking performance by Brendan Hawkes (WEN). He broke the Mens 50+ record previously held by Leon Whitehand (WEN) with a throw of 23.35. Brendan threw over 10m over the record, throwing 33.39m. Smashing the old record out of the park, Brendan has set his place in the record books.
High Jump – Charlie Parr (WEN) jumped the highest with a height of 1.92m, scoring 405 points. In the women’s Sophie Birch (WEN) jumped 1.52m to score the highest amount in the high jump, scoring 420 points. This was followed closely behind Mia Schodde (WEN) who jumped 1.47m to score 419 points
Long Jump – Molly Fraser (BHA) was the best performer in the long jump where she had a furthest jump of 5.46m, however with an illegal wind of 2.4. Kiana Jenkins (BHA) was also well off scoring 404 points with a jump of 4.63m.
