New Athletics Ballarat entity replaces BRAC in historic name change

RE: Local athletics association the Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre (BRAC) will
rebrand as ‘ Athletics Ballarat’ under new strategic direction

The local Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre (BRAC) at the annual general meeting voted in favor of a historic name change, moving to a new modern ‘Athletics Ballarat’.
The new brand, complete with a name change, logo and branding resources has
been designed ahead of exciting opportunities within the athletics space.

With a new athletics facility on the way, and a growth in participation numbers, the
organisation felt a new name to better strategically align with the organisation’s objectives was needed. Under the new brand, the organisation will aim to grow the sport by welcoming key new partnerships with all athletics bodies including Little Athletics and Professional Running communities in
Ballarat and surrounds.

The history of athletics in Ballarat stems back to the creation of the several clubs in the 1890’s and has continued with the merging of the Ballarat Athletics League and
Ballarat Women’s Association in 1988 to form the Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre. Since then, the continued development of the sport and the need for a clearer pathway to enjoy the sport for life, the community felt a new direction
was needed.

The current chair of Athletics Ballarat, Matt Jenkins, spoke to the importance of the
change

“The name and branding changes highlight a new phase for athletics in the Ballarat and
surrounding regions”

“The new Athletics Ballarat brand align with our strategic direction and allows us to

“Athletics Ballarat has undergone extensive transformations over the previous 24 months
and will now add a name and brand change to the mix”

organisation as they continue to managing growing expectations within the
community”

to a new athletics facility being built at the former showgrounds site in
Wendouree. The new facility, aimed to be built by the end of 2026, will see Ballarat with a class 2 athletics facility capable of holding state events in
